This is designed to prepare applicants, who are
currently unable to meet the requirements for
matriculation, with the necessary knowledge, skills, and
attitudes for the degree programmes at the Faculty of
Medical Sciences (FMS), UWI.
It is a 36 credit programme, consisting of five
courses delivered in modules:

- The Pre-Veterinary Programme will last for three
semesters beginning in August 2003.
- The courses will be completed at the end of the
'summer' session of nine weeks in July.
- Successful students can therefore matriculate with
the year 1 professional degree students in September
2004.
On successful completion of the Pre-Health
professions programme, students will be awarded a
certificate, thus allowing them to gain credits towards
normal matriculation for admission to degree programmes
of the Faculty of Medical Sciences or other faculties of
UWI.
The requirements for the certificate is completion of
36 credits with a GPA of 3.0 in:
- English
- Mathematics
- Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics.
After students have attained all the necessary
matriculation requirements, they are offered admission
into year 1 of the undergraduate programmes in the School
of Basic Health Sciences:
- Medicine
- Dentistry
- Veterinary Medicine
- Pharmacy
Student performance is based on :
- Continuous monitoring.
- Performance is monitored in each subject by
means of a self directed learning project or
research activity, short tests and class
presentations.
- End of semester; end of year examinations.
- At the end of the semester, each subject tutor
submits an assessment known as a Class Mark which
accounts for 30% of the student's final mark. The
end of year examination is graded out of 70%.
Students should maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0
(or B).
If the student's GPA consistently falls below 3.0, his
or her record will be reviewed by the Administrative
board, and the student may be required to withdraw from
the programme.
