The Faculty of Medical Sciences, School of Veterinary
Medicine, The University of the West Indies recently hosted
its annual Hippocratic Oath Taking Ceremony on Friday 2nd
June, 2006 at Amphitheatre A, Eric Williams Medical Sciences
Complex.
The oath was administered to the class of 2006 by Dr.
Mahfouz Aziz, member of the Veterinary Surgeons Registration
Board. Professor Phyllis Pitt-Miller, Dean, Faculty of
Medical Sciences and Dr. W. Harewood, Acting Director of
the School of Veterinary Medicine addressed the audience.
The feature speaker for the event was Dr. Don A. Franco,
President, Center for Biosecurity, Food Safety and Public
Health who spoke on the veterinary contribution in a changing
world. He urged our graduands to contribute to the overall
concept of “one medicine” and play their part
in curtailing the ravages of poverty and disease. Dr. Matthew
Brown responded on behalf of the class of 2006. The event
was chaired by Dr. V. Simmons and the vote of thanks given
by Dr. K. Metivier.
There was also a prize-giving component to the ceremony
and the School of Veterinary Medicine conferred the following
awards to the class of 2006.

Following the ceremony there was a reception hosted by
the Faculty which facilitated social interaction between
graduates, their invited guests, sponsors of the event
and members of the academic and professional communities.
