Licensure
The West Indian Veterinary Journal provides a forum for publication
of papers on all aspects of:
- the basic health sciences
- comparative medicine
- veterinary medicine (including veterinary
education and veterinary public health)
The Journal is based at the School of Veterinary
Medicine at The University of the West Indies.
It promotes cross-fertilization of ideas among:
- clinicians
- educationists
- scientists involved in education and research
It also facilitates fruitful interchange of
information among colleagues and collaborators in the
English and non-English speaking Caribbean, and
worldwide.
The Journal features peer-reviewed reports on:
- original research
- innovations in veterinary education
- the application of new technologies in veterinary
medicine and news items
Case reports, letters to the Editor, commenting on any
aspect of the Journal or veterinary medicine in general,
are welcomed.
- typewritten (double-spaced) on one side of letter
size paper
- have one-inch margins
- consist of a title page
- followed on the other pages by:
- an abstract and key words
- introduction
- materials and methods
- results
- discussion
- acknowledgements and references in general
conformity with the Uniform Requirements for
Manuscripts submitted to Biomedical Journals
(Vancouver Style) and published in the Annals of
Internal Medicine 1997, 126(1):36-47 or on their
website:
- www.acponline.org/journals/annals
- The title of the article
- Authors' first and last names and initials
- Name of Institution and Department to be
credited
- Name of the corresponding author
- should ideally be written in English
- written in other languages will be considered
provided an abstract in the English language has been
supplied
- should not be inserted in the text and be numbered
in Arabic numerals on the back with the title of the
paper, and name of authors affixed
- The orientation of figures should also be clearly
indicate
- A list of captions for the respective figures
should be submitted on a separate sheet and should
allow interpretation without reference to the
text
- each should be on a separate sheet and be numbered
using Arabic numerals and an indication of its
approximate position in the text.
- in the text should be numbered consecutively (in
parenthesis) in Arabic numerals in the order in which
they are first mentioned.
- should be abbreviated in accordance with the style
used in Index Medicus. Example of correct form of
reference (where the number of authors exceeds
six):
- Parkin DM, Clayton D, Black RJ, Masuyer E,
Friedl HP, Ivanov E, et al. childhood leukaemia in
Europe after Chernobyl:
5 year follow-up. Br J Cancer 1996;73:1006-12.
- may be sent by e-mail, as an attachment in
Microsoft Word or Word Perfect
- may also be submitted on 3.5 inch diskettes or as
a hard copy (original and two copies including tables
and figures)

- Papers will be accepted with the understanding
that no substantial part has been, or will be,
published elsewhere. This does not pertain to
abstracts in the proceedings of meetings, workshops
and symposia.
- Papers accepted for publication become the
property of the Journal.
- Proofs will be sent to the corresponding
author.
- Offprints will be supplied at current printing and
mailing prices if they are ordered when the proof is
returned.
