The veterinary education
programme extends over five years (ten semesters) and leads
to the degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM).
To accommodate students from around the world the SVM provides
different entry points into its programme, offering a veterinary
program that varies in duration from eight to thirteen semesters
depending upon the individual’s academic background.
Applicants from this background will have:
- Passed the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE)
and/or the GCE Advanced Level Examination in any three (3) of
the following subject areas:
- Chemistry
- Biology/Zoology
- Physics
- Mathematics
and must have taken and passed the fourth subject at the CSEC
or O-Level.
- Hold a triple major Associate Degree from the Barbados Community
College with a GPA greater than 3.0.
- Graduated from the Jamaica College of Agriculture, Science
and Education (CASE) with Associate Degree in Natural Sciences
and a GPA of 2.5 or greater.
A. The following qualifications
meet the School’s admission requirements:
- A degree in the relevant science subjects from a recognised
University.
- Students with a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences
or a related area may be eligible for entry into the eight-semester
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) Programme.
- NB. Students are advised
to contact the School for advice as to which entry point they
qualify for.
- The Ontario Secondary School Honours Graduation Diploma (OSSHGD)
awarded after Grade 13, or the Ontario Secondary School Diploma
(OSSD) awarded since June 1986, with an overall Grade of at
least 60% or holders of equivalent Canadian qualifications;
- The British A-level;
- The French Baccalaureate;
- The International Baccalaureate;
- The German Abitur

confirm the acceptability of such qualifications before submitting
their application forms
B. For those
applicants who do not meet the University’s normal matriculation
requirements e.g. High School (Grade 12 matriculation), admission
into the DVM programme is possible on successful completion of
the UWI’s 12-month Pre-Veterinary
Programme.

- Legal Affidavit or Deed Poll if present name is different
from that on Birth Certificates
- Academic Certificates
- Professional Certificate/Diploma
- For applicants whose first language is not English, you are
required to submit with your application a Test of English as
a Foreign Language (TOEFL) certificate with a score of 500 or
higher
